The Coalition provides support, information and advocacy for foster, kinship and adoptive families and professionals in the Empire State.
Incorporated in 1975, the Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York was organized to address problems in the state's child welfare system which had resulted in protracted foster care stays in, what was intended to be a temporary system, but had, in fact, become the way of life for thousands of children caught in the foster care system. Coalition activities to address these problems since its founding have been focused on: administrative and legislative advocacy, community education, parent group development, support and training services for families and promotion of foster care, adoption and kinship care. The organization was formerly known as the New York State Citizens Coalition for Children.
